Gothic Lolita Punk blog La Carmina

RUFFLED TUXEDO TOP, GOTHIC LOLITA POSTCARDS AND BUTTONS FROM INDIE BRAND AKINA.

Trends in Japan, cool Japan character goods. Kawaii postcards, stationary, buttons. Gothic Lolita accessories.

Lang Leav and I teamed up to give away a Little Miss Lilliput tuxedo top from her Gothloli-influenced clothing company, Akina. I couldn’t resist getting my hands on one myself, so I placed an order on her website. The package came with remarkable number of goodies: postcards and buttons featuring Lang’s fairytale villain artwork…

Trends in Japan, cool Japan character goods. Akina by Lang Leav, L hand signal. Japanese girl model.

… and a black T-shirt with a patched-up, button-eyed teddy bear bleeding from his seams and hooked up to an IV! L-O-V-E her morbid sensibility.

Japanese V-fingers sign, pose with V victory hand signal. Asian and Japan girl posing for photos, kawaii clothing.

The details of the tuxedo top are impeccable. In tribute to Tuxedo-Mask, I’m wearing a black striped mask on my forehead.

Cool Japan fashion, street style and clothing. Fairytale villains top, tuxedo style designer shirt by Gothic Lolita brand Akina.

You can order this top, Lang’s latest Little Mermaid book, and more from the Akina website.

I'm here to report on my japanese-subculture speech!

It went well–I got a 93/100 or an A on it, and one of the good things he pointed out on my speech was that I seemed well informed (that I accidentally dropped my cards and the beginning and kept talking till I got to the conclusion and blanked out probably helped with this). I covered Manba, Goth Loli, and Decora.

I hope the people received it well. One of my goals was to show them something beyond businessmen/samurai/geisha/schoolgirls, which I think I accomplished, but I also hope that they don't think the girls are 'weird.' We only had 5-7 minutes, so I could only really show a picture and say, “Ok, this is what they are named, they usually wear things like this” and then move on. Sometimes I feel like I could babble on about the subject for a long time!
I offered to answer any questions anyone had, and told them they could flip through some books I had (Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno and Fresh FRUiTS) after class, but no one was interested. :( Not really a surprise though, the class is small and things here aren't very…diverse.

But overall it went really well!

(i looked really cute that day too, which is an added bonus :D )

Ohh I’m so glad to hear this! Congrats on the well-deserved A.

That was a nice idea to bring along magazines and show photos – and look cute, of course! I found that when you’re very passionate about something, doing a speech becomes easy.

      Keep it up!
