Gothic Lolita Punk blog La Carmina

WHICH SOCIAL NETWORK SITES DO YOU USE & PREFER? TWITTER, YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, RSS.

There comes a point in every blogger’s life when a whimsical hobby turns into a job or business… Happily, in most cases, the fun only increases. I’ve let my social networks grow organically over the past 1.5 years, but ever since I debuted my Goth Cooking Show, my YouTube views have exploded. To my surprise, I’m now among the most-subscribed gurus in Japan! (I’m assuming that Buddha takes the top spot…)

Twitter screenshot, profile of user La Carmina, author tweets and blog updates.

Unlike some bloggers, I’m not a die-hard Twitter fanatic. I send out tweets when I put up something new (so if you add me on Twitter, you’ll keep on top of the latest posts). You can also get posts delivered straight to your inbox via Email Subscription or RSS.

Facebook Group and Fan Page screenshot and profile. Cat Facebook page, social networking site for La Carmina Gothic Lolita.

It seems like everyone and her cat are on Facebook these days.. speaking of, you can friend my feline, Basil Yuen Farrow! I also have a Facebook Group and Fan Page.

MySpace old profile layout, screenshot of MySpace user profile page. La Carmina Japanese fashion blog posts.

And then there’s my MySpace. I post the blog entries to the MySpace blog as well, so there’s yet another option for staying in touch.

Which social network sites do you use and prefer? On the top right of this blog’s sidebar, you can find links to all my sites. Let me know what you like best!

Song of the Day #89: Andrea True Connection – What’s Your Name, What’s Your Number (a super catchy disco track!)

i use fb and youtube almost everyday, though i do have a myspace as well. facebook tends to be more personal. youtube for watching stuff, and talking about what i have watched. http://www.youtube.com/user/mujitsukyo myspace for advertising my soon to be released lolita line and band contacts. http://www.myspace.com/mujitsuart

tumblr wins everything, hands down. actually, your blog would probably be super popular on tumblr, I follow a bunch of people whoa re crazy about lolita fashion

    i prefer facebook for procrastination

and twitter for like getting biz messages aout there

I use facebook to talk to friends but thats about it. I'm not really a big blogger (I like to read them more than write them hence why I'm here). I don't really see the appeal of twitter because its like 40 characters? Isn't that just like a facebook status only you need a separate account on a whole other site? Also I never really understood what an RSS was… >_>

  • Leanne

I like Livejournal best, but also spend time on Facebook and MySpace.

  • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

Here is a great explanation of RSS – http://www.problogger.net/what-is-rss/

RSS aggregates blog posts and alerts you whenever there is a new post. You can also get my posts sent directly to your email via Feedburner – http://feedburner.google.com/fb/a/mailverify?ur…

I personally like to visit the individual blogs rather than aggregate.

Hahha yeah, Twitter is too much information for me… I prefer “content based” communication, like blog comments. ;)

  • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

I didn't join Facebook until about a year ago. I now use it more than MySpace for communicating with friends… it's funny how some regions prefer one social network over another!

  • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

I use WordPress on a self-hosted domain because it has search, archives and more tweaking options (esp for monetization)… for simplicity though, I agree Tumblr wins out.

myspace over any of them. twitter is dumb :D but i unfortunately have a old-aged connection facebook.

  • http://www.thestrawberrycorner.blogspot.com megan

I have a myspace, but never use it. It's more of a way to keep track of bands and such.
Facebook is fine, I use it, though I should say that overall I'm not too into social networking.
I like Blogger for blogging, lol, though the 'social' side of that isn't as developed as it is for others.

  • http://www.thestrawberrycorner.blogspot.com megan

oh, i also use RSS feeds to keep track of all the different blogs and things i read.

  • http://primthings.blogspot.com/ chelsea

Looking on youtube i have apparently watched almost 6000 videos…worrying.
Mainly I just use blogspot for posting myself,
and occasional facebook lurking after getting talked into it last summer.

  • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

Haha it sounds like a huge number, but I'm guessing it's mostly “passive watching”… like clicking on something a friend sent you and watching a few seconds, or have a song playlist running while you're doing something else…

At least that's what I tell myself! ;)

  • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

Do you have a preferred RSS reader? (ie, Google Reader, Bloglovin, etc). If you're subscribed to this blog, does the RSS feed look okay in your reader?

i just use myspace and youtube. facebook…i dont need one…twitter, i hear is super lame. i'm considering deleting my myspace. does this mean i'm becoming less social? maybe..

  • Odinsbacklash

Maybe JUST BEFORE I go back to Hollywood for awhile,I may get a Twitter account,( as I will be on a long Greyhound bus initiated road trip and I'll be staying all over Southern California and maybe SanFrancisco) But to be honest,I find it rather CREEPY that people can know all your whereabouts if you change your status like we can be doing now on Myspace.I just see some potentials for Twitter to be dangerous to some people.

I love MYSPACE,I've even found it useful besides just being fun,but I never wanted to go on Facebook.I've heard too much not to dislike it.I will not joing Facebook!

I like the NING platform.I find by being on some of those sites,on different email addresses, you can avoid mixing your scenes,(that can be advantageous if you are a misfit like me *giggles* )something that cannot be said when you are on Myspace for instance.

Youtube is great.I collect vids on it when I have the time….but I never did much socialising or networking on it.

Some Yahoo Groups are still great.I have made real life friends through them.

And btw I do not own a cel phone.I will be going to libraries and cyber cafes when I am in California….

  • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

Funny enough, I rely the LEAST on my cell phone for communication. The web is the best way to reach me.

I totally agree about Twitter; I'm careful to keep mine to blog post updates and random recommendations (Kurosawa movies, Camino chocolate!) I'm generally vague about my whereabouts. No GPS location posting, haha!

  • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

Or not… I guess I gauge “sociability” by whether or not the connection is meaningful. I could add a thousand people on Twitter or MySpace but have no interaction with them; there wouldn't be any point, IMO!

Well, I don’t actually use a reader–I sign up for the RSS feeds, and they sit in my browser’s bookmarks or toolbar. So I click/mouse over that particular blog’s feed, it shows me recent entries, and then I click on one so that it takes me directly to the page.

Sorry for not really being any help!

For some reason I love the idea of Twitter but no one I know uses it…. which might be why I like it yet that also means no one is following me either. So what's the point I don't know.
I use myspace the most “to keep in touch with people.”
    I've never had a facebook.
I even have a livejournal, but I have yet to update it and I mainly have it so I can a read a friend's entries.

I think Twitter is a good tool for web marketing and networking, but when it comes down to keeping in touch, it’s quite useless… It’s sad that only a few of my friends write nice, long emails anymore. It’s all about short statues.

I've had facebook, live journal (and dead journal), friendster, yahoo 360 and possibly other social networks.

My current favorite is Myspace, but a lot of people I know are ditching it for Facebook only.

I rather just have my close friends, a few 'internet friends' and people like La Carmina attached to my network. I don't want my co-workers, relatives, and people who I was never really friends with adding me. With more people I know leaving myspace, it seems to mostly serve as a way to find out about local shows/events.

I only use facebook, but it sort of scares me that they OWN everything you post and that they supposedly give information away, or are allowed to at least… I don't know, it freaks me out, but I still use it. It's handy for staying in touch, especially since most people where I live use facebook and not myspace/twitter etc.

I recently heard about that! I’ll have to look into it. Mixi, the Japanese social network site, had a similar policy that dissuaded a lot of users… so they went to Facebook. And now FB is doing the same??? :(

    Aha – http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/02/18/facebook.rev…

Facebook reversed the policy after complaints. Still, it's something to keep informed about… as this could change. Thanks for the head's up!

Was big for the mySpace – and it's still good for finding music and other such like things. However, since moving to facebook, I have found all my real world friends and we keep in touch nicely that way. I don't do a lot of subscriptions to other things on facebook, your page would be one of the few exceptions.
Twitter – no. I do not think anyone wants, or indeed, needs to know my every thought and movement.
