WAVE GOTIK TREFFEN MUSIC FESTIVAL: GOTHIC BANDS IN LEIPZIG GERMANY, STEAMPUNK INDUSTRIAL RIVETHEAD FASHION.

What’s up, pussycats? I’ve been poring over photos from last weekend’s Wave Gotik Treffen festival in Leipzig, Germany. Ah, if I could have flown over on a broomstick! Fortunately, several of Tokyo comrades were at the world’s largest dark music gathering and gave me the full scoop. (Photos: Sebastian Willnow, ddp).

Victorian doll makeup, long feather eyelashes, theatrical cool makeup and silver rings. Wave Gothic Treffen music festival in Leipzig Germany, rivethead industrial fashion, steampunk, cyberpunk clothing, Goth bands, gotik meetup, Western goth subculture makeup, masks and hair.

Zoe (who you may remember from these videos) didn’t see too many Gothic Lolitas in the mix. The prevailing styles were cybergoth, heavy military (for the men) and “the rather disturbing female trend of wearing skirts so short that half your bum sticks out!” Zoe saw a few steampunk costumes, “lots of people in massive period costume ball gowns, cyber drag queens (love them!), and plenty of creativity in outfits and hair. It was amazing to see how put together people looked as they emerged from the camp ground.”

Steampunk custom clothing and costumes, goggles and top hat, brass gun. Blue false eyelashes and Venice carnival scary masks. Wave Gothic Treffen music festival in Leipzig Germany, rivethead industrial fashion, steampunk, cyberpunk clothing, Goth bands, gotik meetup, Western goth subculture makeup, masks and hair.

Music-wise, there’s something for everyone at Wave Gothic Treffen: neo-folk, classical, industrial, synthpop, bat cave… Long-time Tokyo resident Michael has been to the festival several times. He reports: “I was very happy with L’ame Immortelle live and surprised at how much I enjoyed Combichrist: two drummers with full drum sets making for a very powerful live EBM performance. A big high point was Peter Murphy’s midnight performance. During She’s In Parties, he blows into a keyboard recorder instrument that was downright spooky at 3am. Also good for me were Client, Frozen Plasma, Alice in Videoland, and KMFDM.”

Have you ever been to WGT? What did you think of this year’s fashion and performances? Keep the Marilyn Manson contest entries coming, and please let your spooky friends know!

    I've there these year too. I've enjoyed shows from Der Blaue Reiter, I Like Trains, Ianva and Camerata Mediolanense. As for the fashion..hmm, you can see amazing outfits and tasteless things too, i think this year there were 20,000 attenders so you can find almost everything. I'm a bit tired of the cyber fashion, despite the fluor colors i find it boring most of the time. I love period attires, but i wish some people would have chosen better fabrics, it's a pity when a wonderful design looks like a cheap fancy-dress. You can have a look at my pics at http://www.flickr.com/photos/monellepics/

    Gaaah, Germany has such an amazing goth scene. I really want to go to one of their festivals!! (Now I need to learn German…)

    The girl in the first set of photos, the one with the brown/black hair and the steampunk goggles, is an amaaazing model. She's done some stuff that could be considered lolita, or close to it.

    I like the German Gothic because I love the combination of Gothic colors. Blue, black and silver are the major colors for 2010. I like to wear Japan’s fashion since it gives me a contemporary look and I learned this fashion tip from image consulting group@866-565-7541

    I’ve planned to go with my mum (She’s not Goth, but she likes dressing up like one from time to time!) she wanted to go because she loves Goth people and would have liked to witness their creativity. I wanted to go because… Well it’s obvious. Sadly, we couldn’t go because of money issues. D;
