GOTHLOLI OF THE WEEK #90: ANASTASIYA. FILM OF WEEK IS GUITAR WOLF. GLOOMY BEAR & BABY THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT LOLITA, JAPAN EMO FASHION.

teen lolita models, young Russian girl in bedroom, pretty lolitas teenager, sweet lolita with cute bangs, kawaii hairstyles, japanese fashion girls

† Name: Anastasiya Minkova
† Age: 15
† Location: Russia, Moscow
† How were you introduced to Gothic Lolita fashion?
Through a friend, she emailed me a link all about lolita fashion. That was when I was 12. I’ve been in love/SUPER obsessed with it ever since.
† What do you find appealing about GL style and culture?
The cuteness, the innocence. The bows and frills. But besides that, lolita comes in many styles of course, making it wearable at almost any age, while still being classy/cute, which makes it very appealing in my opinion.
† What are your favorite Gothic Lolita clothing brands?
BTSSB, Innocent World, Milky Ange, Metamorphose. Wah~ Too many to name.
† Any other comments (inspiration, tips, favorites)?
I may not have any brand lolita, or much lolita clothes at all, but I try to do my best with what I’ve got. Like making my bedroom as cute as possible. And… I wish for there to be a Russian lolita community in the future!

Guitar Wolf movie, Japanese garage rock band, funny Japan zombie movie, b-movie posters, cute japanese boys in rock group, j-rock visual kei hair and clothes

Film of the Week #40: Wild Zero. You may recall that when the Adventure Team visited Hyaena Gallery, we gushed over Guitar Wolf’s “jet rock ‘n’ roll” zombie horror B-movie. Space aliens invade the Earth, and it’s up to the Japanese rockabilly trio to save the day! On the way, they wrangle with crazy rock managers in very tight shorts, transsexuals, naked women shooting guns in the shower, and bloodthirsty zombies. (Sounds like a day in the life for me.) The DVD is a great present for anyone with an offbeat sense of humor.

baby the stars shine bright collaboration with gloomy bear, cute bear jsk, btssb lolita dress, pink frilly lace dress, teen lolita models, pretty lolitas teenager, sweet lolita with cute bangs, kawaii hairstyles, japanese fashion girls

Introducing a new weekly blog feature that I’ve been testing out on my Twitter! It’s called… kawaii or ai-yah? I’ll post a photo and you tell me what you think. To voice your thoughts, just click the comment link on the bottom right of any post; you can post as Guest if you don’t want to create a Disqus account.

First up, here’s a JSK from the Baby, the Stars Shine Bright collaboration with Gloomy Bear. All of the fashion items incorporate the bear in some way. In this pink dress, his face spans the entire chest! What’s your opinion: kawaii or ai-yah?

emo scene japanese girls, emo girls in japan, Audrey Kitching hairstyles tutorial, dyed streaked hair, short skirts on japanese schoolgirls, cute teens fashion

Style Arena has a regular “Tokyo Tribe” feature, and one of the recent posts was on Japanese emo fashion. I couldn’t stop laughing when I read the “Engrish” breakdown of the style: “People wearing Emo-fashion have long forelock and black, white or vivid colored hair, and wear normally tight clothes. They prefer the combination of black colored bottoms and the loud colored outer. Using black color and the loud color together makes their style more emotional.” (Remember my gay emo boy outfit in our indie movie?) Thoughts on Japanese scene style: kawaii or ai-yah?

If you would like to be the next Gothloli of the Week, please read the submission instructions here. For all your Lolita shopping needs, check out the links to clothing brands on the right column of my blog.

Scene style is ai-yaaaah!! I never got into it and it just reminds me of really lazy visK and decora meshed together. That's just how I feel though. I suppose that some people can pull it off, though.
The gloomy bear dress is kawaii enough. though i'm not a fan of the claws! Heck, I'd still wear it.

the gloomy bear dress is so cute :) I remember they came out with an apron a few years ago

Hmm I kind of like them! It seems that it's a combination of different street Styles. But I do have to say that I like that Emo allitle better than the American Emo style but there might not be much difference. Though Japan is good as personalizing different styles and adding different things into it. I've got to find another word for 'different'.Sorry. have a fine day darling!

& I luv the japanese street fashion. I always find it inspiring…mostly the middle-bottom girl

I think a lot of people automatically cringe at emo/scene style, but there are some intriguing visual elements there. Some of these outfits are well assembled, I think.

    lacarmina says:

I think there's a little more personalization and better attention to quality/detail in the Japanese scene style — and as you said, mixing it up. Have a fine Sunday too!

    Violet_Rimbaud says:

I am entirely jealous of the goth-loli of the week. I wish to be russian with red hair. It's so romantic.

anyway, I saw the gloomy bear collection a couple of weeks ago and I think it's almost kawaii but it sort of falls off the mark. to be truly cute it would have to be a little less wrinkled. It looks a tad half-assed- not up to the snuff of other baby collections.

However the emo fashion, I have got to say, is much nicer than western emo fasion, though it's not really “emo” in technicality, is it? It's like dark- exhibitionist- in a good way. I'd say Kawaii to this one none-the-less

    *great post, La Carmina!”

  21. December 20th, 2009 at 22:07

    Lhene says:

The Gloomy Bear JSK: Ai-yah… I mean, it *could* have been cute. If the positioning, and the fact that it also has arms, not reminded me of a giant bear-shaped tumour growing out of your abdomen. Like that “baby” in the second Hellboy movie, only rather more pink.

Japanese emo: Emo is kind of hit-and-miss with me. On one hand, it has the possibility to be really creative and interesting (not to mention the various hairstyles are quite pretty). On the other, its wearers tend to have little imagination and just dress like every other emo they see – boring, especially when there's a group of them who all look exactly the same. In those situations, it's like the underground version of preps.

I think that the Japanese have a shot at making it look good, though. They have a way of making whatever they wear unique.

Oh my gosh, this just reminded me – I have a Rilakkuma Bear apron that looks a lot like this dress! I should take pictures in it.

Glad you like the new feature — I'll be sure to do more!

  24. December 20th, 2009 at 23:08

    lacarmina says:

    Hahahaha hilarious! A bear tumor!
I think you nailed it regarding emo. Here, most people do the same thing. But the Japanese scene style in the photos is more diverse and individualized.

  25. December 21st, 2009 at 00:01

    Xel says:

Is it just me, or is emo universally lame? It's as if it's lameness transcends all time and space.

Don't get wrong; I really enjoy the gothic lolita fashion…it's just that I've never really been a fan of the emo scene.

Their emo is alot like our (America's) scene fashion…its interesting, but I'm not too big a fan.

I do like the gloomy bear things, but I see them moe as costume than everyday wear…

I am curious if the Japanese emo kids listen to the same music, or have the same style icons as Americans… or if it's purely a visual interpretation.

At the gloomy bear thing, definitely Aiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah~ >_> Or Aiyoh! It's too much and too girly for my tastes lol I might as well wear a kigurumi *now wants a Gloomy Bear kigurumi*
Oh well the pics don't look “emo” to me… but maybe that's just because Japanese fashion likes to take more care and look more detailed than American fashion.. BUT I LOVE IT <3 I still want the guy on the bottom's outfit… because it's made of sex…

  32. December 21st, 2009 at 08:45

    Holly-wa says:

    1st- ai-yah!
2nd- Meh. More kawaii than ai-yah, though.

    Seiran says:

First off, that loli is really cute and adorable <3333
Second, the only one who looks closest to “scene” or “emo” is the girl on the top right…
The rest look like they stepped out of a KERA magazine… NOT EMO!! D: Emo usually looks a lot more plain than this anyway….>_>+ ….wait they're a melodic punk bad, those guys? Heh well they look cool anyway. I think if I had to pick one, I would wear the guy's outfit in the bottom left… he looks cool O_O And his hair is pink and his shirt underneath is pink, plus the colorful shit over it…= <3333

just as Momoko in Kamikaze Girls, I sighed out a longing “kawaii” when I saw the BTSSB and Gloomy Bear collaboration dress…the perfect “pepto” shade, the detail of the front..it had my moe meter going off the charts! =^-^=
