I haven’t seen your video, but I have seen a music video on YouTube that has vaginas in it…
exactly what guideline are you supposed to be violating? =

Maybe copyright issues on some of the background music?…

Nope, no copyright infringement. The email says “The following video(s) from your account have been disabled for violation of the YouTube Community Guidelines” and that’s it.

such a cool video. that dj rocks! i looove the fetish scene! s&m between consenting adults is fabulous, in my humble opinion. i don’t know much about YouTube or if they have any videos online similar to yours. i know nothing about their policies, but i think they should have communicated clearly their reasoning to you. some of the submissive girl’s goodies appear to be hangin’ out (can’t really tell because the lighting is quite dark), and she’s being flaggelated. i’m torn, because although i love this, i can’t really blame the old fogeys for wanting to protect the under 12’s.

I think they should have communicated the problem to me, and allowed me to remove the video or edit it — instead of penalizing me. (If I ‘offend’ them again, they’ll pull the channel.) Or put an age filter on it… >__<

Man, that sucks….. and it’s definitely singling out the goth/actual fetish performance community since stuff like Lady Gaga’s is still up. I guess it’s only against the rules if the submissive person is enjoying it??? o.O

*waits for them to take down the Dahlia Tour White Poem live if male sub is suddenly seen as OMG AGAINST TEH RULZ LOL*

Hmmm – I mean whilst I don’t have a problem with this (at all), I have to say that YouTube is kinda well famous for keeping even borderline stuff off. I guess the problem is finding the right host. As for whether they’re hipocritical, I guess they are… but as you found there’s always alternatives.

Still looked like a good night – and good get the post out eventually.

And yes – that sour puss face should be punishment enough! ;`)

It’s just upsetting because I built up a large number of subscribers on YouTube, and yet so much is out of my hands and things can get shut down any second?? Not cool…

Having standards is one thing. Having arbitrary standards that are inscrutable and simply increase the level of self-censorship are another. I suspect they have a bunch of immature dildos and dildettes who capriciously take down videos when it suits their current mood. I just had a run-in with Raw Story where their so-called moderators were running wild like a bunch of 2-year-olds with too much sugar. Fortunately, the owner reads his e-mail and disciplined the little knuckleheads. Trouble with Google is you really can’t get through to the honchos.

Exactly, there is no recourse. I saw instances of people who got their channels shut down, and the notice even says they can’t argue it or get them back…

Honestly I've seen much worse survive on YouTube without getting flagged, that sucks! (But it looks like her breasts are bared?)

And unfortunately, covers aren't a fair use in most countries, I learned that the hard way. There's two layers of copyright: on the performance of the music by the original artist, and also on the music itself (when performed by anyone).

Guess they didn't your video up at the same time as Gaga's. Ppl might compare them & judge hers as the truly lame derivative corporate product that it is.

    Posted June 14, 2010 at 7:13 am | Permalink

That indeed is a strange move for You Tube to just take down that video like unless someone flag the video for inappropriate or You Tube got their balls squeezed on again. I did not see anything wrong done here. Sad to see you had to alter a video that cover an event in Tokyo that happens all the time. What will they do next?

Yeah, I think everyone is confused as to why Lady Gags is allowed to savage her crotch on Youtube but you're not allowed to have some dim footage of not-nearly-hardcore bondage.

Oh, right, it's okay if it's mainstream. (I really resent Lady Gaga for appropriating underground club fashion and putting it forth like some provocative original style of hers…)

By the way, I've seen a video of a guy in a latex Spiderman costume caressing himself on Youtube.
Granted, he did make that private after a while, but, to my knowledge, it was never removed.
But a bit of nipple JUST MAKES EVERYONE GO CRAZY.

I think it’s missing the point a little to call YouTube’s activity (whether fair or unfair) anti-free speech and so on. YouTube is a business, and definitely shouldn’t be thought of as an unalienable right. They’re going to choose what content to have in order to make them profit. YouTube has strayed away from the alternative, indie video scene (which started as their original concept) for years now and their commercial behaviors are, at least to me, really predictable at this point. I think people should consider giving more attention to the less-mainstream services if they really want a networking place. If we really want to continue to have our voice and art heard on the net we need to empower ourselves by avoiding the mainstream outlets. What do you think?

    • lacarmina
      Posted June 14, 2010 at 9:24 pm | Permalink

That’s part of my dilemma. YouTube is THE leader when it comes to video hosting. Whenever you, me and friends look up a song or post one on Facebook, we go to YouTube. Just as we go to Google for search.

I don’t have a problem with putting my fun videos on a different hosting site. But my “reporting” videos have the goal of getting the word out on Japan’s subculture and arts: such as Osaka’s Goth scene at Black Veil. This is a culture that very few people would be able to see for themselves, and I want to support the scene by having the information to reach as large an audience as possible. (and I have close to 3000 subscribers on YouTube.)

So it’s a struggle… perhaps a balance of using non-mainstream outlets that embrace darker material, and the mainstream ones but with caveats…

        Posted June 15, 2010 at 7:48 am | Permalink

That’s true, in a way we still need YouTube to carry out such activities…it’s not exactly possible to have the same influence with the alternative hosters. I think you’re right in saying we’ll have to find a happy medium by using both.
