TWILIGHT MAKEUP TUTORIAL: VAMPIRE & WEREWOLF MAKEUP TECHNIQUES. HOW TO: BLOODY DRIPPING LIPS, VAMPIRE EYESHADOW. ECLIPSE, NEW MOON FILM.

Twilight. What do we make of this beast of blood? I haven’t read the Twilight books or seen the movies, and have no interest in doing either. However, I’m kind of obsessed with the Teen Werewolf Pack that haunts the malls and high schools of San Antonio, Texas (remember this news report?). Slightly drooling after the 15-year-old boy leader, Deikitsen Wolfram Lupus. So here’s an outfit post to make his hair stand on end…

mall goths, gothic emo makeup, eyeshadows fake lashes japan, orange hair girl, dyed orange hairstyle, teenage wolfpack, werewolves haunt high schools, san antonio texas, TWILIGHT MAKEUP TUTORIAL: VAMPIRE & WEREWOLF MAKEUP TECHNIQUES. Makeup: Werewolves have brown fur (right?) so I used brown and pink-brown eyeshadows gifted from Aromaleigh (part of the new Victoria’s Revenge collection). I added some of these tones to my light pink lipstick to match, and finished with gloss. I filled in my eyebrows with grey, and applied false lashes with interwoven gold (from a Japanese dollar store).
Hair: I swept the front part to the side and tied it. Swept the back to the side and tied it. Added a braid and clipped it with a bow barrette.

I studied the Teen Werewolves video carefully, and the pack seems to wear “mall Goth/emo” clothes. I did a (hopefully) more stylish version…

Dead teddy bear T-shirt: gifted from Akina. Designer Lang Leav just had a solo show at Sydney’s Kinokuniya, and a copy of her art book Charlie’s Widow was presented to director Tim Burton who was “very impressed.” Go girl! (Remember my tour of Tim Burton’s retrospective?)
Ruffled wrist cuff: Spider, a Hong Kong Lolita brand.
Skirt: Spider.
Red checkered punk tie: gift from Closet Child
Stockings: gifted from We Love Colors. I love diamond print tights, but have only seen them in black and white. However, We Love Colors carries these in 51 colors and a variety of sizes!

HOW TO: BLOODY DRIPPING LIPS, VAMPIRE EYE Shadow, ECLIPSE, NEW MOON FILM.

The werewolf transformation isn’t complete without a tail. I’ve seen many people wearing fox tails such as this one that sell for $10-20. Why not do something unique, cheaper and more symbolic? Make your own tail! I used a faux fur trim remnant from the fabric store.

It’s important to “know thy enemy,” so here’s a vampire look for you too. Canadian company Annabelle Cosmetics kindly sent me a box of bright, luminous makeup to try out. Many of you have asked me for step-by-step makeup tutorials, so I will do my best…

† Start with a clean face. Lightly apply foundation with a sponge. It’s good to invest in a quality brand; I like Make Up Forever HD invisible cover foundation.
† Choose a rich red lipstick (this is “Adrenaline” by Annabelle). Use a lip brush to outline your lips, sticking to your natural shape.
† Then fill in your lips, making sure the coat is opaque. Take your time.
Let’s make bloody drips! Run the lipstick straight down from your lower lips. Vary the length of the drips, and taper them to a point.
† Pick a dark purple or blue lip color (I used MAC Cyber). Apply it to the center of your lips and blend it out.
† Finally, slather your lips and drops with clear gloss: I like the DuWop Lip Venom that my friend gave me. Make it look like you’ve just sucked the life out of a victim.

Since the lips are ultra-dramatic, I kept the eye makeup relatively simple.
† Fill in the eyebrows with a natural-looking shade; I used a grey shadow.
† I swept Annabelle Studio Pigment eyeshadow in Karma (a metallic lavender-blue) over and under my eyes with Annabelle’s Small Shader Brush. Sweep up from the outer corners for a vampish look.
† I glued on thick, fake eyelashes from Hong Kong.
† Get out your black eyepencil: Annabelle Cosmetics sent me a sharpener and Ohmygoth Smudgeliner, which goes on smooth and clean. Draw a straight line under your lower lids.

† Finish with powder. Again, it’s good to invest in the good stuff; I’m a fan of Make Up For Ever HD microfinish powder. Compare these photos to the previous ones, and you’ll see it gives me a matte, pale, pore-less surface.
† My nail polish is a combination of three shades: dark grey at the bottom, orange-red on top, and sparkles at the tips. The graduation of colors makes your nails seem longer.

Now you’re ready to watch Twilight: Eclipse or (if you’re me) bite new victims at a Goth club!

What do you think of the whole Twilight thing? Are you Team Werewolf or Team Vampire? And would you like to see more step-by-step tutorials?

Japanese Word of the Day: Kamu = Bite
Song of the Day: X Japan performing Born to be Free, yesterday at LA’s Club Nokia. My friends Kynt and Vyxsin were in the music video. Kynt writes: “We had a scene where we were making out, and then a girl Vampire came in and killed me (she was looking for Yoshiki haha)!”

Personally I’d like to just go with wizards. I mean, seriously think about it and compare the vampires’ and werewolves’ lives to a wizard’s life, you see where I’m coming from. But if I had to chose sides, I’d be with vampires…the vampires that do not sparkle in the sun, they burn; the vampires that sleep, during the day, in a coffin; the vampires that are totally B.A.

      I like the vampires of Poppy Z Brite’s Lost Souls… boy-on-boy vampires and a lovely teen! :P

i really dont like that series. it’s just a typical teenage girl’s romantic wish fulfillment on paper. why can’t vampire movies and books have a real story anymore? atleast interview with the vampire had a serious story to it. this thing that is twilight is just about some silly girl’s indecision between necrophilia and bestiality. lmfao jk! but yeah annoying.

Loving the tights!! I’ve always dug diamonds and argyle patterns :) Really like the neutral lip colour too (in the top look) and the lashes! You could turn the bottom ones the other way round so they curve outwards, as lashes naturally do (altho I guess you’d miss the glitter then).

Cheers :) Do you ever get time to get to the coast in Japan? I imagine these days you can’t, cos people are just paying you for the time you’re presenting, not to have holidays :) I meant so the lashes curve outward and down (on the bottom) in a convex curve, not concave. Either still looks good, but our lashes naturally curve outward and down on the bottom, and outward and up on the top.

Exactly – I don’t get to take side trips anywhere. However, I recently was able to sneak away to Osaka for a few days with Yukiro (hence the recent photos from Osaka). Ahh I see what you mean about the lashes!! I’ll try that next time!

I can go on for a while about how stupid the Twilight franchise is.
Besides the usual complaints about the “vampires”, I’m absolutely sickened that so many girls and grown-up women even are still entranced by what used to be the princess fantasy (a la 90s Disney of being swept away by a stronger prince figure…) and now has just brought necrophilia (Edward is much closer to a well-preserved zombie than a vampire) and bestiality (Jacob isn’t actually a werewolf… he can change at will) into it.

The books are badly written with no real plot or characters. They make the romance section of bookstores (ugh) look like Tolstoy.
There is no objective way these are good in any way except for fulfilling the fantasies of women who want to be a colourless, weak female like Bella that can be loved by some perfect MALE.
It’s completely demeaning to women, and the ones who love it stupidly don’t even realise it.

    • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

I’m ok with the necrophilia and bestiality (ahhahaha) but the “save me” thing is one of my pet peeves. I don’t like the pro-abstinence aspect of it too. A friend of mine sent me the passage where she gives birth and suffers in excruciating ways because that’s Punishment for her sins…

      • Riff

Hahaha, yeah, except that if you mentioned necrophilia or bestiality to the girls who read it, they’d just think it’s gross, despite the fact that their dear Edward and hawwwwt Jacob are, respectively, dead and a wolf.
But, like I said, I’ve gotten over the fact that SMeyer mutilated vampire and werewolf lore beyond recognition, but that girls are eating up this utter drivel almost makes ME feel misogynistic!!!
I’d hardly call myself a strident feminist, but I just find romance novels and chick flicks incredibly offensive to women, and even more so that many women actually enjoy them. Making us look bad, you sods. >:/

If only those men existed. But I do agree with you. I do admit I have read all the books, because I can not turn down any book. That is just me. But, women dream of romance cause the men who give it, are few. Ah to be loved, by one who loves unconditionally!

  • Talymicah

I posted this already on Twitter but…I prefer werewolves, because they come with “no clothes”. :P But seriously, I prefer mermen above both species.

  • EleganBlack

Personally… I don’t like Twilight. I refer to the so-called “vampires” as The Things or Fairies. Because the real vamps of literature aren’t like that. Bram Stoker’s bones are probably trembling in his grave by the disgrace. That’s my opinion of course. And I don’t really like the whole romance either. I find it too over the top. I’ve read the books and seen all the movies so far (made to by my friends -sigh-) and there was this line in “New Moon” that got me puking. I don’t even want to remember it.
And of course, except for Team Carmina, I’m also Team Krueger (cuz real men don’t sparkle !) That’s a line made by one of my few Goth friends ;)

    • http://www.lacarmina.com lacarmina

I recently revisited some of the original Gothic novels and ahhh they’re beautifully written. Not like the Twilight books…

      • EleganBlack

Go Carmina-sama ! I tell everyone at my school and they just roll their eyes with that ‘Oh God, she’s crazy’ look. But you only know about true vampires when you’re into the whole subject. Because all those girls at my school are the type of girls who like anything that’s popular so how could they know ? Or rather accept the true literature vamp ? If anyone were to tell them how real vamps are, they’d probably say it’s disgusting. Unless it became popular of course.
And I’m currently reading The Vampire Chronicles of Anne Rice. I noticed that the vampires there have reflections, whereas traditionally, vampires don’t reflect back. But at least her Majesty Anne Rice explained that she did it because it is thought that those without reflections have lost their souls, so, because she wanted her vamps to seem ‘sensible’ (not the right word but anyway) despite their nature, she gave them reflections (so I’ve read in The Complete Vampire Companion by Rosemary Ellen Guiley).
But Stephenie Meyer didn’t explain why she completely mutilated the vampire legend. >_<

I’m not a fan of the Twilight Saga, since I think the movies are completely ridiculous and Edward is not even good-looking… I read the first book before all the hype started but when the Twilight craziness started, I kinda lost interest in it. In my opinion, vampire movies which play in a historical setting are better than the ones that have their setting in modern times.

I HATE Twilight so much. I admit it, I read the books 3 or so years ago, and here is my take.
Stephanie Meyer, the author of the series, is a genius. She wrote the books so that any girl or woman could identify herself with Bella. Edward Cullen is today what Prince Charming was 50 years ago. Now, women are judging their boyfriends or husbands based on Edward Cullen. Edward Cullen is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. You should love your boyfriend for who he is. Edward and Bella don’t even know each other. they just…met and they fell in love. Rarely does this happen in real life, and girls are getting the wrong impression about love. That your boyfriend will buy you everything you want, because he is a rich, wimpy ass vampire.

Also, I have a secret hatred for Twilight because my ACTUAL, real life boyfriend’s name is Edward. It makes life very difficult when talking about him to strangers, because people think I’m talking about Edward Cullen.

I hate that this message continues to be sold to young girls… and worse of all, they SUCK it up and drink it to the dregs! Even when girls say they aren’t romantic or influenced by these passive love messages, I know so many who ARE… >__<

My favorite vampire is Nothing from Lost Souls. ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Souls_(novel)

But Lestat is dreamy too! Lemon did a fantastic Lestat costume last Halloween. xo

Exactly – I don't get to take side trips anywhere. However, I recently was able to sneak away to Osaka for a few days with Yukiro (hence the recent photos from Osaka). Ahh I see what you mean about the lashes!! I'll try that next time!

I used to back comb my hair and give it a lot of volume with hairspray and wear a simple black on black headband with feather and beads or a rose with lace.

Eah, There are many different types of Werewolves, and first and formost, Jacob and his pack are shapeshifters, well if you ask me I think skin walkers. But they are not just “house dogs”. Vampires, well there are different clans everywhere, and I agree, broaden your views of vampires with other books, preferably non teen. To me, this is a bunch of teen wanna be goth/vamp tawdry glam.
