GOTHLOLI OF THE WEEK #45: HEATHER.

Goth girl with glasses and spooky eye makeup, fake eyelashes. Lolita from Las Vegas, USA.
† Name/URL: Heather.
† Age: 21
† Location: Las Vegas, NV, US. (It’s not as glamorous as it is on TV, I promise! )
† How were you introduced to Gothic Lolita fashion?
Quite a few years ago (2003 or 4). I was introduced off-handedly to Mana of Malice Mizer (a common start, I have found…) and was immediately taken by his style. I was always a bit gothic at heart, but hated the typical ‘mall goth’ look. Tripp pants, band shirts, that kind of thing. I wanted something more feminine, more lovely. I was a -girl- and wanted to dress like one. ‘I should not have to sacrifice my feminity for a darker style’, I thought. I didn’t start wearing anything even -slightly- lolita style until my senior year of high school in 2005, and even then it was too dark, and a bit too heavy. More closely taken -from- Mana (Sakai no Chi to Bara, actually. That was my favorite), than actual lolita. I handmade my accessories, and scoured thrift stores for vintage dresses. I took a trip to California after graduation and managed to snag a copy of the latest Gothic Lolita Bible (then 17), and started to change my wardrobe to what more closely resembled what I found there instead. It’s still changing, for me now, I think, and I am very flattered that I’d be featured as a Gothic Lolita here, because I never particularly classified myself -as- one. I am a lolita enthusiast, really, an avid supporter, and lover of all things related. I interweave lolita accessories into my style, even if its with a nice jacket and a pair of jeans, but I am definitely not 100% lolita, 100% of the time.

† What do you find appealing about GL style and culture?
The look of it, really. It’s very classy, and -old school-, and there is an innocence to it that is appealing to -everyone- in some way, I think. You can dress it up, or down, you can be a child, or a little lady, or even a Madame, depending on how you wear it. It takes its tips from a time back to when manners were important, and it was a perfectly acceptable occupation to just -be- a lady.
† What are your favorite GL clothing brands?
Moi meme Moitie is beautiful. I like it for a lot of reasons, and none of them have anything to do with Mana, really. Just the cuts and lines of the dresses are beautiful, and flattering. Modest, yet alluring. (As a size 16, myself, it’s nearly impossible, or at least feels that way, to ever be able to own a nice jsk, but it doesn’t stop me from having it be my number one brand. I am more of an accessory whore anyway, and have a nice collection of triple M stuff crammed into my room. Socks, etc.) I am a HUGE fan of Atelier BOZ. It’s so straight and dark, and classy. AntiqueBeasT is my indie love, and if you haven’t seen it, I encourage you to check it out.
I -also- support the Chinese based FanPlus Friend, as I own a few pieces of theirs (one of them a BOZ replica coat *-*). They do quality work, and it’s great if you’re on a budget, or just can not logically make the decision to squeeze yourself into those shirring topped brand dresses, stretching them within an inch of their life. It’s about the -style- really, and importance should not always be placed on the name of the tag you’re wearing. I also like H.Naoto Blood, for something a bit more casual. It’s not exactly lolita, per say, but another brand worth mentioning.
† Any other comments?
As stated above, it’s not always about the brand. You can be beautiful and lolita in the things you make yourself. Always remember to wear what fits, ladies! If you have curves, do not let them prohibit you from wearing the style you like. And, as I am sure most of you are aware, the subculture of lolitaism, has become somewhat synonymis with being vile and rude. It’s just bad form to put each other down for not matching brands, or wearing brand with non brand. In the end, really, it’s all just -clothing-.

I love how she chages her look so much and yet still you can tell its her. pretty! I also like how she points out that being GL or L doesn't equal being snob. I'm a girl about her size so its nice to see curvy girls work it so nicely. great post.
