HARAJUKU GIRLS STREET STYLE PORTRAITS: GOTHIC LOLITA, VISUAL KEI, CYBER DECORA FASHION ON STREETS OF JAPAN, CANDID PHOTOS.

HARAJUKU GIRLS STREET STYLE PORTRAITS: GOTHIC LOLITA, VISUAL KEI, CYBER DECORA FASHION ON STREETS OF JAPAN, CANDID PHOTOS. Mana sama cosplay, long fake eyelashes, Japanese makeup, scary spooky Halloween facepaint, Goth hair.

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Flickr for my new writing gig (info to come… gotta finish the assignments first!) There are some mad talented photographers out there who have captured – and been captivated by – Harajuku fashion. ajpscs’s portraits of stylish Japanese teens made me turn my head. He draws out the rich textures of alternative beauty: feathered bottom eyelashes, sequined and pierced lips, guro bandages, white lace gloves.

Cute goth boys, male gothic fashion, visual kei band members cute, red hats, HARAJUKU STREET STYLE PORTRAITS: GOTHIC LOLITA, VISUAL KEI, CYBER DECORA FASHION ON STREETS OF JAPAN, CANDID PHOTOS. Japanese makeup, scary spooky Halloween facepaint, Goth hair.

In a style showdown, Harajuku boys match the girls blow-to-blow. Nice visual references to the classic Japanese horror film Kwaidan and Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands.

HARAJUKU GIRLS STREET STYLE PORTRAITS: GOTHIC LOLITA, VISUAL KEI, CYBER DECORA FASHION ON STREETS OF JAPAN, CANDID PHOTOS. Geta shoes, Jack Skellington face purse, punk hair in Asia, half dyed pink VK, coffin carry on luggage.

The devil is in the detail. A white spider sock over a fading red geta with a dangling bell – yes! The coffin carry-on bag and Jack Skellington face purse would match my Nightmare Before Christmas luggage. For more gorgeous photos, see ajpscs’s Flickr.

Thanks for the suggestions for my new Nintendo DS. Anyone have recommendations for language-learning games (Japanese and other Asian languages)? How about Facebook apps and other fun mediums?

Song of the Day #180: Danger Gang – Retsu (this song makes me jump up and down)

Oh, I suggest you get an R4 card.
That way you can just download games. And there are probably torrents for a japanese dictionary or something.

As far as language learning goes, I've got a cool program called DS Kanji Sonomama for my DS. The program is all in Japanese but if you can read a bit of kanji it's not too hard to navigate. The cool thing about it is that you can write in any kanji and it'll look it up for you. This way, you can find kanji readings even when you're not on the computer. There are a lot of similar programs out there for DS too!

Ohhh I haven't heard of that (I'm a total newbie with video games). Do you have a link? What is it exactly, and how much does it cost?

I will have to look for that! Kanji is my weakest point, so it'll be great practice.

for the DS I would definitely recommend the R4… my bf bought me one as soon as I got my DS. It has been very useful for me…
I know there are loooots of Kanji-related DS programs… I see them on J-List… I figure I may just download them when I feel more… confident in continuing with Kanji. Pokemon in Japanese is definitely a good one. Also, I use “My Japanese Coach”… I have heard complaints about it (like some kana having incorrect stroke order, or the use of too much romaji in the beginning…) but it's been pretty good for me.

Oooooh I'm getting an Nintendo DSI in a few weeks! *yay!*
I'm really interested in getting the language learning games. As for the Asian language learning games, here's some I found online:

    Japanese:
    http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:My%20Japanese%20Coa

    Chinese:
    http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:My%20Chinese%20Coac

There's also Spanish and French as well :)

Even though it has nothing to do with languages (unless you get it in Japanese), The Legend of Zelda is a MUST. Zelda: the Phantom Hourglass is for DS, and you simply MUST!!! Zelda is the best of the best, and no Nintendo machine, stationary or comportable, is complete without it. And Pokémon of course, Pokémon is always awesome.
Make sure to check amazon for good deals on games, at least in Scandinavia you can save A LOT by buying games from amazon.co.uk. I would also recommend looking at reviews of various Japanese learning games, there are quite a few out there, and if you find detailed reviews you will get a better idea of the level – some games will require you to start from scratch with hiragana, katakana and “one-two-three”, and I doubt that's what you're going for. :)
