VIDEO: VISUAL KEI HAIR STYLE TUTORIAL! PINKY VIOLENCE: 1970S JAPANESE BAD GIRLS B-MOVIE POSTERS AT HYAENA GALLERY, BURBANK CA.

Visual kei hair tutorial, j-rock style techniques, tips, how-tos, cute androgynous teenage boys, long hair emo teens, male Gothic Aristocrat EGL clothing, Jrock hair cuts and Japanese men's hairstyles, shaggy mod hair, crossdressing teen boys, pinky violence exploitation movies, japanese bad girl b-movie films

Rawrrr! A new video! The Adventure Team shares tips on how to achieve Visual Kei hair. Ementhy: “Grow it out, use a teasing comb, amazing hairspray and your hand.” Lemon: “There is one extra secret though… that people won’t tell you about.” What, pray tell, is the key to unlocking a big spiky J-rock hairstyle? You’ll have to watch our video to find out!

After a LA freeway navigation disaster, we arrived at Hyaena Gallery in Burbank, California. Earlier this year, the gallery exhibited a Vampire portrait of La Carmina by Los Angeles artist Dienzo.

Gallery owner Bill Shafer gave us a grand tour of the Pinky Violence exhibit: sexy posters from 1970s Japanese bad girl b-movies. The Adventure Team was wowed by the morbid curiosities for sale, including a 15th century Albrecht Durer engraving, paintings by serial killers, and Charlie Manson’s autograph on a page of Exodus. All this and more are shown in the video here and below.

If you’re in LA, you’ve got to stop by this little art shop of horrors. Hyaena Gallery always has new exhibits and events; for current info, visit the gallery’s website. (If you liked the video, please subscribe to my YouTube channel so you won’t miss out.)

The great thing about hanging with Visual Kei boys is that you pick up stellar makeup tips. Ementhy opened my eyes to Urban Decay’s “Zero” black eyeliner, which goes on smooth, strong and slightly smudgy — just as J-rockers like it. Recently, I’ve started smearing on Burt’s Bees lip balm and it’s put my lips in a highly kissable condition. Plus, all the ingredients are natural and the company supports good causes.

Do you have any favorite lip balms or beauty products? What do you think about makeup on boys? Do you have additional tips on how to achieve Visual Kei J-rock hair? And should I steal Lemon’s coffin ring?

Song of the Day #259: The Names – Calcutta (It’s featured before, but this track is just so good… it’s the tune used during the video titles.)

I think Visual Kei fashion shoud stay in Japan, just looks weird on white guys. I live in Japan too, and when, and although it is rare, I see a white guy with long flowing hair and overly pointy shoes, it just looks odd to me. But each one ot their own!

Enjoyed the video of the Pinky Violence posters. Once I get my mac bac from apple (I had to send it away for a week)… I should send you a link to a pink film that had been repurposed with different subtitles. Maybe with a political/societal context. Very interesting.
I came across it, by way of Momus. Who else would show a pink film with deep political meaning?? Haha!

I wouldn’t really identify myself with “Visual Kei fashion”. VK is the way we like to present our music, but as an ordinary person (which is what you see me as here) I just wear what I like, which usually tends to be a combination of gentleman’s clothes and street clothes. I don’t like to mimic the stereotypical “VK look”, as you mentioned with the overly-pointy shoes, because I think VK is simply about shocking glam looks and it has to do more with costume than with everyday wear, so I really question whether something like “Visual Kei fashion” really exists.

The hair needs more layers (like, shorter layers) if you want to spike it up all nice and pretty; right now, it looks more like “scene” or “emo” hair . . . just sayin'. Long hair just doesn't like to defy gravity.

I think visual kei hair can look good on anyone, if done -correctly-. I mean, some Japanese people can't even pull it off themselves. First: I love this organic lip balm that's made in the Philippines. It doesn't make my lips dependent on the moisture and the smell is lovely. Plus it doesn't have that weird aftertaste. It's so delicious I could eat it! I also love this eyeliner made by a local company. It's called Stargazer by Everbilena. It's like your eyeliner: dark, smooth, and a bit smudgy.

Second: Not all boys look good with make up. Some can pull it off but most just look weird. =/

Third: Yes! Steal the coffin ring! Steal it for me! teehee!

Great video! So cool to see all that awesome artwork. I’ve seen quite a few of those classic flicks I’m proud to say. :)

And yes, WILD ZERO is one of the greatest films ever made…..
