NHK KAWAII BENTOS TV SHOW: INTERVIEW WITH LA CARMINA, BLOGGER & CUTE YUMMY TIME AUTHOR. PEACE NOW JAPAN, VIVIENNE TAM.

Ah, the scratch-your-head experience of being on Japanese TV! Here’s day two of behind-the-scenes photos from my NHK Japan filming (courtesy of Shichi). I call this my “genki outfit”; think energetic, fun, bright:

Cobweb sweater top: Black Peace Now, from Closet Child. (It comes with trailing sleeves, not worn.)
Ganesh elephant god top: Vivienne Tam. Bought it almost 10 years ago in Hong Kong.
Punk plaid skirt with furry dangles and detachable leg covers: Peace Now, from Closet Child. (Such a unique piece.)
Hair: tied up in two loose, messy bundles. The TV director marveled: “How very spiky!”

PEACE NOW JAPAN, VIVIENNE TAM. CUTE CHARACTER BENTO, JAPANESE FOOD COOKING SHOW, NHK JAPAN TV DOCUMENTARY SHOOT, NEW YORK WAVE BENTO SHOW, charaben, la carmina, red pink scene hair girl, vivienne tam ganesha sheer rainbow shirt, vintage vivienne tam, peace now gothic lolita marui one

The cameras filmed me doing what I do: chilling with Hello Kitty, reading Japanese bento books, blogging and writing all day. Let’s play Where’s Waldo! Can you spot…

† The blue feather I wore at the Halloween Vampire Masquerade ball?
† The gift that came with Blablahospital’s Xmas card?
† The dead kitty scarf I wore to Christon Cafe Shibuya?
† Part of my Phoenix Wright bento lady cosplay outfit?

The director interviewed me about my work. More on  my YouTube.

After, I Gothed up my lips for a fashion segment. Black lipstick from Lime Crime and a dab of dark blue from Make Up For Ever.

Fuzzy black beret with sparkles: Nile Perch, from Laforet Harajuku.
Silver and black crucifix ring: What’s your guess? Guess again? (Oh that never gets old!)
Crystal and black leather cuff: Yohji Yamamoto (one of my favorite pieces ever, from a Shibuya vintage store)
Spiky ankle boots: Tripp NYC, from Trash and Vaudeville in NYC

black lipstick, napoleon jacket, cool original japanese womens clothing. black beret with sparkles, fairy kei fashion, nile perch laforet. NHK KAWAII BENTOS TV SHOW, BLOGGER & CUTE YUMMY TIME AUTHOR. CUTE CHARACTER BENTO, JAPANESE FOOD COOKING SHOW, NHK JAPAN TV DOCUMENTARY SHOOT, NEW YORK WAVE BENTO SHOW, charaben, la carmina, red pink scene hair girl, military coats silver buttons, tailored custom goth clothes

Here’s a closeup of one of my favorite eye makeup techniques. First, put on loads of black eyeliner (I use Urban Decay). I swept Aromaleigh Sonic Rocks in a teal shade over the edges, added blue glitter from Too Faced to the inside of my eyelids, and finished with Japanese dollar store stickers.

In one of those classic “montage” segments, I modeled the coats from my previous collection. Can’t wait for the first printing of the Akumu Ink collaboration t-shirts, now available for order here (and more info here — thanks for your enthusiasm!).

You’ll see how the TV shoot turned out in early February when it airs on NHK (and I’ll put up video clips on my YouTube.) Please keep in touch: I added Google Friend Connect and Facebook Fan boxes to the right sidebar. Song of the Day #290: Raphael – Hana Saku Inochi Aru Kagiri (SO SO EPIC. Heavy metal ballet in a cathedral! The bit at 4:00! Visual kei YAY!)

    *** Spoiler ***

Most of the stuff from the “Where’s Waldo” is right next to you! It goes you, Christmas gift, bento lady hat, dead cat scarf Hello Kitty from center to right (assuming I have the gift right). Blue ostrich feather appears to be on the shelf behind the camrea man, which I noticed first as it looked as if his elbow was trailing blue speed lines lol. The Genki outfit and the coat you wear with the spiderwebs are amazing. I want to blame R.A. Salvatore’s Dark Elf series for my fascination with web/spider patterns on ANYTHING, talk about fantasy novels which would appeal to adolescent goths, a completely undergrown, female dominated society of evil elves that worship ‘The Spider Queen.’

I hope Trash and Vaudeville didn’t rip you off too much for those boots. I had recently put down a $500 pair of boots I really liked, to pick up a $200 dollar pair I kind of liked, to leave the store with nothing, and order a $120 dollar pair from Rivethead.com that I like only slightly less than that 500 dollar pair I had seen in T & V. Although it is nice to indulge once in awhile ^^. I love Trash and Vaudeville their prices can be scary though.

      Nice work! I <3 Where's Waldo.
Ah, they didn't cost much at all — and they're comfy and have lasted. Happy with these, and the Irregular Choice moon boots I picked up there years ago… I agree that a lot of the items are overpriced, but I've found some sweet deals!

As you always share childhood cuteness – Apparently I had used a whole roll of film as a kid, taking pictures of my Where’s Waldo books, in order to make a ‘travel sized’ where’s waldo (those books were massively long! I’m thinking easily 15 inch paper was used?).

        • Posted January 23, 2010 at 9:26 pm | Permalink

Ohhh yeah — those books were huge! I wonder if you were able to see anything in those photos without a microscope? :P

          • Posted January 24, 2010 at 12:13 am | Permalink

Nope! The only thing it had going for it, was due to inexperienced young kid photography I already centered on waldo and if I didn’t get the whole 2 pages of the crazy scene going on it was alright! lol
