TOKYO DECADANCE @ HARAJUKU ELEPHANT CAFE: LOLITA GOTH CYBER CLUB, JAPAN PARTY PHOTOS.

Tokyo Decadance Japanese cybergoth party photos, nightlife, gothic parties in Japan. Weird Harajuku fashion.

Annnnnd then the Repo! gang moved on to Tokyo Decadance at Elephant Cafe in Harajuku. The party is, of course, the crossroads at which the style tribes meet. Gothic, Cyber, Lolita, Kawaii, Guro: all mixed up and slathered on thick. (My baby skeleton barrette is from Loft’s Halloween collection!)

Nobuyoshi Araki erotic art photographer at Tokyo Decadance Harajuku. Japanese artist, avantgarde Bjork collaborator. Crazy Japanese makeup and masks, cybergoth club fashion.

Who’s the pleasant fellow on the top left? None other than Nobuyoshi Araki, the Japanese photographer known for his vertiginous and erotic art. Araki’s performance that night involved self-piercings, eating worms and cockroaches, and doing unnatural things with his body and fire.

Victorian dolls, gothic lolita club fashion, lace bonnets and pirate eyepatches, little top hats, giant pink hair bow and decora eye makeup.

The female fashion: undead Victorian dolls, towering bows and bonnets, pirate eyepatches, leather and lace and Lolita.

Tokyo Decadance gothic lolita cyber nightclub, nightlife party in Japan Harajuku Elephant Cafe. Japanese trendy fashion, street snaps, spooky Goth makeup and latex masks, J-horror.

I love how the girls pump up their eyes with false eyelashes, dripping black eyeshadow, and cute gems and stickers.

Big anime head masks, sailor moon cosplay costume, anime cosplayers. Goth corsets and leather bracelets from Japanese cyber designers at Tokyo Decadance.

The Decadance regulars danced on the platform – to techno, EBM, synth – wearing giant anime head-masks. Around the corner, you could buy corsets and leather bracelets from indie designers.

Have you been to Tokyo Decadance, either in Japan or overseas? How does the fashion compare?

I missed the last Decadance by a weekend! XP The organisers were all in Australia by the time I got to Japan, blehr.

The costume photos make it look so much fun, but I keep hearing stories from ex-goers about how it's really hit and miss (leaning towards miss) a lot of times. I guess it really depends on the crowd on a particular night. :/

True that. Elephant Cafe is too stuffy for my liking, but I loved the Halloween bash at Christon Cafe Shinjuku. Midnight Mess and Club Cemetery are best music/Goth-wise, IMO.

are you sure that's araki? because he doesn't do performances like that… there are other people who go to decadance who resemble nanbu torata [dengeki network/tokyo shock boys], but araki has always been a photographer who has no connections to decadance, at least as far as i know.

I’m pretty sure it is (I wasn’t sure either). When I went on the HIS Experience tour of Tsukiji market, I showed the photo to the Japanese tour guides – and even they said ahhh that’s Araki!!

they do look alike! but while araki may be likely to photograph performances of that sort, he has never done any sort of live performance, especially of the self-piercing, bug-eating variety. :) i’m only saying so you don’t end up putting false information on your blog…if he was performing at decadance, he would have been on the flyer! ^_~

Hahah I was starting to doubt this information too… it’s funny that several people insisted that it was Araki! I will take your word for it. :)
