TOKYO DECADANCE @ HARAJUKU ELEPHANT CAFE: LOLITA GOTH CYBER CLUB, JAPAN PARTY PHOTOS.

Annnnnd then the Repo! gang moved on to Tokyo Decadance at Elephant Cafe in Harajuku. The party is, of course, the crossroads at which the style tribes meet. Gothic, Cyber, Lolita, Kawaii, Guro: all mixed up and slathered on thick. (My baby skeleton barrette is from Loft’s Halloween collection!)

Who’s the pleasant fellow on the top left? None other than Nobuyoshi Araki, the Japanese photographer known for his vertiginous and erotic art. Araki’s performance that night involved self-piercings, eating worms and cockroaches, and doing unnatural things with his body and fire.

The female fashion: undead Victorian dolls, towering bows and bonnets, pirate eyepatches, leather and lace and Lolita.

I love how the girls pump up their eyes with false eyelashes, dripping black eyeshadow, and cute gems and stickers.

The Decadance regulars danced on the platform – to techno, EBM, synth – wearing giant anime head-masks. Around the corner, you could buy corsets and leather bracelets from indie designers.
Have you been to Tokyo Decadance, either in Japan or overseas? How does the fashion compare?
