TSUKIJI FISH MARKET & SUSHI-MAKING LESSON: H.I.S. EXPERIENCE TOUR IN TOKYO, JAPAN.

Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo Japan, giant tuna or maguro, big fish and octopus, fresh seafood. Green tea matcha powder, Japanese food recipe lesson and tour from HIS Experience.

Why is La Carmina in Tokyo? Because… believe it or not… a rockin’ tour company, H.I.S Experience, invited her to join a tour and share H.E.R. experience on this blog!

I had the pleasure of attending a walking tour of Tsukiji fish market, followed by a sushi-making lesson in a Japanese woman’s traditional home. The fun and terror (of seafood trolleys on the rampage) are captured in the video below.

Let me be frank – I generally despise tours; they remind me of overfed cattle-herding. But H.I.S. Experience is a whole other story. Instead of being a passive observer, I was an active participant in picking out fresh tuna and preparing a sushi lunch. H.I.S.’s activities include ninja combat, sumo wrestling, cherry blossom watching, soba-making, Taiko drumming… it’s the ideal way to immerse yourself in Japanese culture for a day.

The next time you (or a friend) are bound for the Land of the Rising Sun, take a look at H.I.S. Experience’s unique tours – they’re worth every penny. You can peek over my shoulder on the tour video I made here (please subscribe to my YouTube)!

Song of the Day #100: Duran Duran – Girls On Film (the intro song used in the video! The other two are random German minimal electronik tracks.)

that is so awesome! I really want to go to Japan, but to be able to actually make sushi with a native Japanese person is so amazing, i am totally jealous

I watch a lot of travel/food/culture shows like Bourdain or Zimmern and I've seen Tsukiji several times. that place is massive! I'd love to visit
  • Bourdain rocks! I love how he's always buzzed!
  • I love making sushi but have never seen one of the devices you were using, just stick to an old bamboo placemat. I think the market would have made me a little queezy being vegetarian but definately seems an interesting experiance.
  • It's a long, plastic tray with 2 layers... you add a layer of rice and fillings, then put a layer of rice over top, then squeeze and press out the whole thing... it forms a perfect rice roll, which you can then wrap in nori. Pretty neat, but I'll stick to my bamboo mat!

ahhhh!!! i always love ur vids watch every one of them keep up the good work!!
    toodles :3
  • That's pretty neat. I don't know if I could stand it myself though--I'd be afraid the sights/smells would make me queasy.

We're (the group I'm going to Japan with through school) are likely going on some tours...I wonder what company? I think it's interesting that many of the HIS tours only seem to need at most 2 people to work.

HAHA eeep at trolleys ~.~ I want to make sushi in Japan!! So awesome I will look into this travel company when I'm planning a trip!
  • Hey there Carmina! How the trip? This one will definitely be going up on Jpopexpress.com soon! Looks just too cool! ;) ^^
  • Sweetness!!!! Domo!
  • we l.o.v.e loved the fish market it was so fun and so worth getting up at stupid o clock in the morning! the tuna were so emmence! we saw some being cut up with a two man saw..and omg you are so right about those carts..scary and FAST!
  • It's EARLY but worth the trip! I hear that the tuna auction ends at 7am, so if you arrive before, there isn't a lineup for the sushi eateries.
  • Odinsbacklash!
    MMmmmmm I LOOOVE sushi....

Those tours would be incredible fun (tho I was always a do-it-alone adventurer...) as it is I love running through any American big city's Chinatowns for a quick fix.....since they tend to encompass several Asian cultures...I love the open air fish markets and all that window to another world.....I collect Maneki-Nekos also.....
  • Those Maineki-Nekos were TOO cute for words!
  • Project
that..s very cool ne. I have to visit that market next time i will travel to tokyo again. Now i know where it is. i have not been to ginza, because shinjuku and shibuya are my favourite places until now.
I am not into seafood this much, but japanese food has mostly a good taste.

btw. you are cute in the video ^^°
  • Definitely visit Tsukiji - it's a unique experience!
