GOTH LOLITA CARMINA DRAWING BY OPTIVION, RUBY WINKLE GOTHIC CHILDREN’S BOOK CHARACTER.

An Edward Gorey outtake? Nope, it’s a sketch of La Carmina by artist Optivion. How fun: I look like I’ve just seen a ghost, or turned into one!

Meghan Killeen, an artist who has worked for a detective agency and performed in a circus troupe, got Optivion interested in sketching La Carmina after finding my blog. Meghan also specializes in spooky-cute girls: she’s the creator of children’s story character Ruby Winkle (above). The red-haired Gothic heroine is unable to sleep, so she comically uses science, sleuth work and inventions to regain her ZZZs. Along the way, Ruby meets a beatnik bat, glowworm nightlight, and supernatural forces… You can see more graphics on Ruby Winkle’s MySpace and website. Sleep tight!
