FAIRY KEI JAPAN STREET STYLE + LONDON UNDERGROUND SHOES: POPPLES 1980S RETRO STUFFED TOYS, POP & LOVERY PASTEL HARAJUKU DRESS.

Fairy Kei is in my head… and ON my head, my fingers, my whole body! How I love the Japanese street style pioneered by the Spank! girls. It’s 1980s-nostalgic, pastel-pink-polka-dotted, Care Bears meets My Little Pony (check out more photos in my previous post).
White rabbit charm worn in hair and bunny watch: Putumayo
Kawaii panda bear ring and pastel fuzzy-ball scrunchies: Outlet in Ikebukuro.

On my feet, my feet! Every good Goth needs a pair of Mary Janes; I highly recommend London Underground’s Bread n’ Honey shoes. Check out the solid leather, decorated heel, and three (yes, three!) buckled straps. Beautifully constructed and pain-free – and a steal at $100.
And you can wear them with anything – like leopard print tights and a terry-cloth Popples dress! I nabbed the dress for $12 from a Harajuku stall. Does anyone remember these pastel pom-pom pouch characters from the 1980s? I think I owned a Popples plush…

Come drool over cutting-edge yet well-constructed footwear on the London Underground Shoes website. You’ll be seeing more of this brand as we collaborate… And check my site tomorrow for Fairy Kei photos from Harajuku!
PS: someone asked if it was okay to add me on my Twitter. It’s more than okay – I encourage you to follow me and I’ll do my best to reply to messages! I usually Tweet links to music, quotes, inspiration, and various Gothic/J-pop oddities. No annoying “I’m flossing my teeth” updates, promise.
Song of the Day #131: Happy Medium radio stream (neo-psychedelia, ragas, chill oddities) is my favorite soundtrack for unwinding.

Ia says:I remember popples! I had a few (and my mom may still have them)! I'm not one for the 80s look (unless it's goth glam), but some of the fairy kei stuff is really adorable!

evil DJ Petey says:I was never into Popples… They were like weird little bear-dog monsters? I don't know. My Little Pony all the way! I like the “G3″ MLPs now, with the magnet in the hoof – they can climb my file cabinets.

lacarmina says:I'm soooo tired of the electro 80s look – you know , the blue/yellow/pink zig zags and shutter shades. But fairy kei takes the child-like, pastel elements that I wore as a kid… ah, the 80s!

lacarmina says:OH love the lighting and the lavender hair streaks… obsessed we are. PS – I don't know what's better, the Virgin Mary toast or the Hello Kitty one!

Dragonswyng says:its the magnets. same thing goes with external speakers, don't put them on top of your tvs or moniters if they are sizable. they can cause weird blank spots I'm told 0-o
