Ooh I've never even thought about giving a cat yogurt! haha When I first got my cat, my dad found her in a puddle of water during the storm season… so she isn't afraid of water. So in the summer, she likes to sit in the bathtub with some water, or I take a little watering can and play with her xD But its cute, because I like to soak the pavement in the backyard, blow bubbles, and she pops them on the ground! XD Weird kitty lol

I gave a friend a furminator for her extra hairy long haired rescue. It is a special kind of brush that just removes the downy underlayer of the fur. The cat was much happier and lighter. Just don't go over the tummy/nipple area at all (ouch), or go too much over the tail, spine and bony joints or the cat might start to look like a possum.

my girlies like yogurt too and will steal whip cream if you aren't looking lol. in our local grocery you can find frozen treats especially for dogs and cats! they are a bit pricey at about $4-5 a box of 4 but well worth it on those uber hot days. I have 2 outdoor dogs who get to come inside most of the day when we're home. we also keep their water bowls in the shade and even put ice in it sometimes. I don't have one but I've seen cooling pads for them to lie on in our local pet store; tho I think they'd be more suited to a smaller beast, mine are huge :-)
as a fellow pet worshiper I say keep up the good work La Carmina!

Hooray! Right, as you already know, milk isn't good for kitty tummies (despite the common belief). But plain, organic yogurt is a healthy treat.

My daughter: “It's the Scott Fold Cat!” (well, she is 3) I change Maneki's water several times a day to keep it fresh and cool. I did have my British Shorthair shaved cos British Isle cats like Basil and mine have those warm double coats. (My Brit cat now lives with my in-laws-wah!) Great tips! So happy to see Basil on this warm morning! Hmm, will look into this “furminator” for Maneki!

I'm digging the furminator idea, I've never heard of that must check it out. I'll have to try the youghurt with Chloe and Coral. I dont think that my cats will take to the cool cloth too well. I know Coral will NOT have it at all, Chloe might be OK though…

I just bought one! (amazon.com has a great price) It seems to have a lot of happy customers-that will help with Maneki's double coat. Oh and yes, the yogurt idea-oh yes, Maneki loves that-that and cold lactose-free milk!

I tried a furminator at the vet's, and it works well. But go easy; someone commented: “Just don't go over the tummy/nipple area at all (ouch), or go too much over the tail, spine and bony joints or the cat might start to look like a possum.”

well for the longest time I only saw the dog treats but then a couple years ago the ones for cats showed up. both have been big hits in my house tho I think my kits are just as happy with the yogurt (chilled or frozen). but I’d like to learn to create my own for them. so I may research just how to do that :-)
if it helps anyone, I found them at Bi-Lo, Harris Teeter and I think at Earth Fare (which is my fave local chain cuz of their natural/organic selection!). if you shop at Earth Fare be sure to try the Purple Haze (goat) cheese; it’s made and flavored with Lavender and tastes AMAZING (it’s my personal fave cheese in the world)

great idea to keep the water bowl in a plastic container. Our kitties insist on playing with their water bowl and spilling it all over the kitchen floor. It's ruining the linoleum tiles!

As you might all know, cats have a higher blood temperature than humans. That is why, in the summer time, it's a lot harder for cats to cope with the high temperature. Be sure to provide a lot of shadow, allow them to enter the more cooling rooms of your house and make sure you have a couple of bowls with fresh water around the house.
