    Hurray! I can comment now.
The goth scene in Toronto these days seems to be in it’s purest form at either an EBM or Fetish event. More so with the Fetish events because with EBM there isn’t as much of an emphasis on goth style/fashion, and you can find people just walking around in regular-ish clothes.
Aside from those two staples of goth events, there are a lot of mixing with other sub-cultures; rave, anime, psychobilly/rockabilly. You can see a lot of the same people kicking around a rave as you would at Anime North (toronto’s anime festival) or a Matadors or Nekromantix concert. These same people tend to go to some of the goth events around Toronto as well. Although it might be something that would combine these cultures, the best example to come to mind would be Darkrave.
Something else that deserves mention is what I guess you could call the Retro, contingent of goths. The older goths, which the article mentions, tend to be grouped into a “retro night” type of scene than a goth scene. Not too many young goths/sub-culture people attend these events and it tends to attract more people enticed by the kitschy 80’s feel. The crowd there tends to be old enough that I (being 21) am considered super young. When you put that in contrast to Darkrave, that has all age events that draw big crowds, it’s very interesting.

There! I’m done with my super long post.

Oh! And we have a VK scene, where everyone hates everyone else.

Well you should come down to the biggest Canadian goth town, but your LA self may freeze to a big block of ice. Either way.
